User groups

From Lanius CMS Wiki

A content management system is meant to be used by various people. Typically, the system recognizes different kinds of users, and assigns them various levels of access to the content, depending on their role.

Lanius CMS recognizes 6 different kinds of users:

  • Guest
  • Registered
  • Editor
  • Publisher
  • Manager
  • Administrator

The following table describes the roles in more detail:

  • can switch default templates
  • can modify some global configuration options

Management tasks

As a member of the Manager or Administrator group you can perform specific tasks on users: manage users (add, edit or delete them from the site), set the status of their accounts (enabled or disabled) and send them email messages.

You can manage website users from the System => Users Manager page of the administrative backend. From here, you can activate or deactivate a user, add or delete a user, or edit an user's information.

Manage Users

Administration backend

Lanius CMS has two main hierarchies for User Groups: one for access to the Frontend (so users can log in to the web site and view designated sections and pages) and one for Administration Backend access.

Access to Frontend

  • Guest
    • Registered
      • Editor
        • Publisher
          • Manager
            • Administrator

Access to Backend

  • Publisher
    • Manager
      • Administrator

Administrator

The Administrator Group has access to all of the Back-end (Administrator) functions. Your site must have at least one user designated as a Administrator to perform the site's Global Configuration. Users in this group cannot be deleted and cannot be switched to another group.

Manager

The Manager Group has slightly restricted access to the Back-end (Administrator) functions.

Managers cannot:

  • Add or edit a user in the Administrator group
  • Access the Global Configuration settings
  • Access the Mass Mail function
  • Manage/install Templates
  • Manage/install Language files

Publisher

The Publisher Group is generally restricted to matters of content creation.

A user in this group, in addition to the restrictions for an Manager, cannot:

  • Manage Users
  • Install Modules
  • Install Components
  • Access some Components (as determined by the Administrator)
